Research
A brand is an idea of a company; a positive or negative experience. A brand identity includes all the tools necessary to express a brand and brand experience. Somehow, I needed to create a brand for myself. I had to dig deep and establish how I wanted to represent myself to the public. I knew I needed to incorporate an anchor somehow into my design. I love the beach and all things nautical. When I think of the beach, I think of something peaceful and tranquil, yet always hard working because of the tides. The colors are calming and soothing, yet bright and vibrant throughout sunrise and sunset.
An anchor means much more to me than it does to some people. An anchor represents:
- stability
- strength
- faith
- tranquility
- travel
- security
- a rock during difficult times
- safety after a long journey
- holds down the mightiest of ships in the stormiest of weather
Since I needed to incorporate an anchor in my design, I wanted to stick with colors of the beach. I looked at the colors of the beach at sunrise, sunset and throughout the day.
A Storm of Sketches
I had many different ideas. I kept sketching and designing then doing the process all over again. I had many types of designs that varied between different anchors, different typography, and I even incorporated softball in my logo. I was on the drawing board for four weeks spending every single day thinking and redesigning. I would be satisfied with one design and wake up the next morning and hate it. I was determined to find the perfect design.
Conclusion
After the seas calmed, I created my brand! I was able to create a logo and incorporate it into my business cards, letterhead, resume, billing statement, social media and website. Each one relates to one another and there is unity throughout each piece. As difficult as it is to brand myself, I now understand the steps it takes to help others create a brand for themselves. I am able to help guide them more and give ideas to make their journey as smooth as possible.
